The 14th of July is Bastille Day (French Independence Day) known locally as "La Fête National" and Nice is no exception.

Walk down to the Promenade from the apartment and watch the traditional military parade on the promenade in the afternoon with a possible fly past of the Air Force jets. Go onto enjoy the free music concerts on stages set up along the promenade. The music is varied and there is usually something for everyone.
At 22:00h the impressive firework display kicks off. The fireworks set up on several pontoons out in the bay, centred opposite the Meridien Hotel but because several pontoons are use a good view is available along a wide stretch.

Practicalities
In Nice the Promenade is closed to traffic from about 13:00h onwards for the rest of the day, and, because it is a public holiday the public transport operate to a Sunday timetable. Most shops are closed.
